Week Two

The Body of Christ

 By Min Merline Turnbull

1 Corinthians 12 :25-26 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it.

*Here Paul was admonishing the Corinthian Church that there should not be any schism{division} among them.

*1 Corinthian 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you speak the same thing and that there be no division among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

*Who is the Body of Christ?

*The Body of Christ is the Church, made up of all who accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior in general and the local church in particular.

Mark 14:22 And as they were eating Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, Take eat, this is my Body.

*Body-definition {Greek}-Soma is related to Sozo meaning to heal, preserve, be made whole.

*1Corinthian 12:12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.

*Paul is saying here that every believer has a distinctive roll in the Body of Christ to fulfill. Paul is saying here that every member that is connected to the body is part of the body regardless of their role.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where is the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where is the smelling?

18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

19 And if they were all one member, where is the body?

20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked.

*Paul is comparing our natural body with the believers in the body of Christ.

*Some of the most important members of the body are those behind the scene.

*We are all important in building up the Body of Christ.

Romans 12:5 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

*Jesus and His Father are one according to {John 10:13}.

*Our love for each other should be so strong that we feel each other pain and rejoice when one is honored.

*The body needs each member to do it’s part in order to work properly.

* We must respect and value each other for the vital roles we serve in the church.

*That same spirit of schism that was in the Corinthian Church is possible to be among us to today.

*It’s imperative that we renew our minds with the word of God

*.We are called to support each other (I Thessalonians 5:11)

*We are called to promote truth and unity in the body of Christ {Eph 4:25}

*We are called to worship the King of Kings. {Psalm 92:1-2}

*We are called to service {1Corinthians 12:4-11}

*We are called to share Jesus {Romans 1:16}

We are called to love each other {1John 4:11}
