Preface

The Book of Psalms represents a rich tapestry of prayer and praise. Some psalms reflect a texture of deep despair, others glow with a deep peace in the Lord's strength, still others bubble with an exuberant exaltation of the Most High God. They cover the range of human emotion and experience. What they all have in common is prayer, a reaching out to God from every imaginable experience.

What they are not is a set of laws they we are compelled to follow. Grant it they do have some good things to say and some good advice to follow but they are meant to be more inspirational then legalistic.

In this 13-week study we'll attempt to enter into the experience of the psalms. Yes, we'll explore the meanings of words and learn to appreciate the high art of these poetic masterpieces. We will study them thoughtfully, and carefully. But more than that, we will find out how to pray. We will know how to find peace in the midst of turmoil. We will learn to be thankful. We will begin to follow the pattern of the psalmists as we begin to praise and worship. In short, with the psalms that we will use in this study as our guide, we will grow deeper in our walk with the Lord and more able to offer worthy praise to the King. We won’t just read and study the Psalms but we will experience the Psalms.

September 23rd - Thirsting for God (Psalms 27, 42-43, 63)
September 30th - Choosing the Right Path (Psalms 1, 15, 133)
October 7th - Offering High Praises to God (Psalms 150, 95, 98)
October 14th - Crying Out for Rescue (Psalms 40, 69, 80)
October 21st - Trusting in God's Protection (Psalms 61, 91, and 121)
October 28th - Resting in God's Care (Psalms 16, 23, 131, 3, 31, and 46)
November 4th - Exulting in God (Psalms 57, 96, 126, and 24)
November 11th - Rejoicing in God's Character (Psalms 103, 145, and 117)
November 18th - Looking Forward to the Messiah (Psalms 2, 110, and 22)
December 2nd - Finding Forgiveness and Restoration (Psalms 32 and 51)
December 9th - Giving Thanks to Our Faithful God (Psalms 100, 107)
December 16th - Psalms: Epilogue (Psalms 46 and 119)
